Legend has it that when Roman Generals would triumphantly parade through the streets of the Eternal City, they would have a slave constantly whispering in their ear, "Remember, you are mortal; Memento Mori." The thought is echoed in classical antiquity, in Horace's ode to Leuconoe, "Seize the Day; Carpe Diem." I would have painted that but life is too short to paint smelly fish..
